Canadian Nursing Home Under Investigation for Nursing Home Abuse
July 22, 2011
Canadian nursing home Niagara-on-the-Lake is being investigated for nursing home abuse for not treating a resident’s broken leg for 23 days, waiting for their doctor to get back from vacation.
The resident had fallen four times in the past year and recently passed away. The Ontario Coroner’s office is investigating the woman’s death.
The woman’s daughter visited her mother frequently and pleaded with the nursing home to X-ray her mother’s leg, saying she was screaming in pain. Staff, however, refused to X-ray the leg. When an X-ray was finally done it confirmed that the woman’s left leg was fractured.
The daughter of the now deceased woman urges families of nursing home residents to be vigilant about possible nursing home abuse and neglect.
“I hate to think what happens to people who have no one coming in to visit them,” said the daughter.
We also urge families of nursing home resident’s to contact a nursing home abuse lawyer if you suspect your loved one is being abused in a nursing home.
