British Company Closes Second Facility Under Allegations of Nursing Home Abuse
August 12, 2011
The British nursing care company Castlebeck has closed a second facility under allegations of nursing home abuse. Winterbourne View care home in Bristol closed in June after undercover video of abuse was filmed; now Rose Villa, also in Bristol, is set to close.
An investigation at Rosa Villa led to four workers at the nursing home being suspended last month. However, Castlebeck says the facility is closing for operational reasons and not at the order of the Care Quality Commission.
Castlebeck owns 23 nursing facilities. Besides Rosa Villa, the Care Quality Commission says it has serious concerns about three other Castlebeck facilities, and seven other facilities do not comply with standards of quality and safety.
In a recent report, the Care Quality Commission said Castlebeck needs to make “root and branch improvements” to its facilities.
The problem of nursing home abuse and neglect is nothing new either here in the States or abroad. When abuse is suspected it is important that family of the victim notify authorities right away and get in touch with a nursing home abuse lawyer to go over your legal options.
