A new article from the Toronto Star highlights the importance that transparency plays in combating nursing home abuse.

The head of the Ontario Long Term Care Association, Gail Paech, says once nursing homes stop hiding abuse and neglect the problems can then be fixed.

An investigation done by the Toronto Star uncovered physical abuse and neglect, and even rape, of nursing home residents. The investigation further found that many of these cases of abuse and neglect were not reported to the health ministry.

Paech says finding these problems was the beginning of the journey and that massive cultural change within the nursing home industry is necessary to end the problems of nursing home abuse.

A task force has since been created to focus on the specific problem of nursing home abuse in Canada.

We advise anyone dealing with nursing home abuse or neglect issues to seek the counsel of a qualified nursing home abuse lawyer who can help you and your family during this difficult time.
