A Hebbronville, Texas nursing home caught on fire last week resulting in several residents being taken to a local hospital. Although a state marshall is still investigating, it may have stemmed from substandard upkeep of the premises; a nursing home abuse offense in Texas.
According to reports, the fire started in the east wing section of the Hospitality House of Hebbronville. The residents were evacuated and relocated to other facilities in the area. Once the first responders were inside, it was determined that the smoke was coming from just one room on the east end of the nursing home. However, several residents were in the room at the time watching television and suffered from an excessive amount of smoke inhalation.
The victims were taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment and are expected to survive.
At this time, there have been no charges filed against the nursing home. Yet, if the investigation finds that the facilities have not been properly managed, the victims have the right under Texas law to secure legal representation through a Texas nursing home abuse lawyer and file for civil damages.
According to the city’s fire marshals, restorations are underway. Once the nursing home passes a safety inspection and everything is repaired, the residents are expected to return home. Along with damages to the walls and beds, windows were broken out in an attempt to provide fresh air for the residents until help arrived.
