A new Canadian task force has been formed after an investigation by the newspaper the Toronto Star uncovered abuse, neglect, and even rape in nursing homes.
A senior advocacy group called Concerned Friends will be a part of the new task force along with nursing home employees and senior citizens.
The task force will focus on reforming reporting practices when abuse or neglect is noticed, so that both the nursing home and ministry are aware there is a problem.
Staff training will also be focused on to ensure staff receive proper training for working with special needs patients such as those with dementia.
The new task force is calling on nursing home residents and their families, as well as nursing home workers to generate idea on how to put an end to nursing home abuse and neglect.
We encourage you to get in touch with a nursing home abuse lawyer if you have a family member who has been abused in a nursing home.
