A Swedish nursing home is reported to have waited five days before reporting to police the alleged sexual nursing home abuse of an Alzheimer’s patient by another nursing home resident. The alleged victim’s family were also not immediately informed.

Once informed of the abuse, the alleged victim’s husband asked a manager at the nursing home to move his wife to another area of the facility but he was told that would not be necessary. The woman and her alleged abuser are currently still in the same department of the nursing home.

The elderly man charged with sexual abuse has denied any wrongdoing. The court ordered he undergo an exam by psychiatrists before the conclusion of his trial.

Sexual abuse in nursing homes, while particularly heinous, is not uncommon. If you or a loved one are a victim of sexual abuse–or any other form of abuse–in a nursing home you need to alert the police right away and contact a nursing home abuse lawyer to discuss what legal options you can take.
