An investigation in underway into possible sexual nursing home abuse of a severely brain damaged woman at Grande Oaks nursing home in Oakwood Village, Ohio. The 29-year-old woman, who cannot move, was diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease.

Grande Oaks says they have investigated the incident and determined that the woman had the STD prior to living at the nursing home. A nursing home abuse lawyer for the family says there is no evidence that the woman had an STD before the accident that brain damaged her six years ago.

The woman’s family became concerned about her health when they noticed blood in the seat of her wheelchair. After being checked out at a local hospital it was determined that she had an STD.

The woman’s family thinks she was indeed sexually assaulted at the nursing home and say she now shakes when people touch her and sometimes cries. The family has moved her to a different nursing home.

The Long Term Care Ombudsman of the Cleveland area is also investigating the possible sexual abuse.
