An employee at an Oregon nursing home is accused of sexually abusing a female resident. The alleged sexual nursing home abuse occurred on December 22 at Valley West Health Care Center.
Staff at the nursing home called the Eugene Police Department reporting the abuse and the man was arrested. On December 30, the man pleaded not guilty to first degree sex abuse, which is a Class B felony and Measure 11 crime carrying a mandatory prison sentence.
The man is accused of having sexual contact with a “mentally defective, mentally incapacitated, and physically helpless” woman, according to court papers. Police say they do not think there are more victims.
Valley West Executive Director Matt Preston said the nursing home is cooperating with the police investigation.
“Valley West Health Care Center performs a background check on every person that we hire to assure that our residents receive the best care possible,” said Preston.
The man accused of sexual abuse in next scheduled to appear in court on January 27.
