A former nursing assistant at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio was sentenced to 10 years in prison for abusing an elderly resident. The nursing home abuse was caught on video after the resident’s son placed a hidden camera in his mother’s room.

The hidden camera played a significant role in prosecuting the former nursing assistant.. Among the images captured on video was the nursing assistant pulling the elderly Alzheimer’s patient from her wheelchair and throwing her onto her bed.

Another former nursing assistant could get 6 months in jail for her role in the abuse of the same patient. The woman recently pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault.

In total, four employees of MetroHealth Medical Center were fired for their involvement in the abuse.

Family members need to be vigilant in watching for signs of abuse or neglect if their loved one is in a nursing home. A hidden camera can play an important role in documenting abuse and, along with the help of a nursing home abuse lawyer prosecuting those involved.
