Two former nursing assistants at MetroHealth Medical Center of Cleveland, Ohio are facing assault charges for physically abusing a nursing home resident, and are scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
One nursing assistant faces 13 counts of patient abuse while the other assistant faces one count of patient abuse. Each count has a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison. If found guilty the women would also be banned from working in a nursing home.
The nursing assistants were caught abusing an elderly resident on a hidden camera the resident’s family placed in her room. The video shows the women using brutality while transferring the resident out of her bed and also spraying her directly in the face with a body spray.
Family members of nursing home residents need to be vigilant in recognizing any signs of nursing home abuse, reporting their concerns to authorities immediately, and also contacting a nursing home abuse lawyer to go over their legal rights.
