A New Jersey family says they are suing The Harborage Nursing Home after they caught their mother being beaten on a hidden camera. The video led to the arrest and firing of the aid who allegedly assaulted their mother.

The daughter of the 87-year-old victim says she watched the video after the death of her mother and learned of the nursing home abuse. After the video was brought to police the victim’s aid was arrested and charged with assault, abandonment, and neglect of the elderly.

The family says they started noticing bruises on their mother and decided to use a hidden camera when complaints to the nursing home and state officials did not help. The elderly victim had been in the nursing home for seven years after being paralyzed from a stroke.

Abuse of the elderly in nursing homes is a crime almost unthinkable to most, but in reality nursing home abuse and neglect happens all the time in our country. If you suspect your loved one is a victim of nursing home abuse we urge you to notify authorities and contact a nursing home abuse lawyer.
