This Memorial Day as we honor those who have given their lives in service to and defense of our country, we must also remember the military veterans still with us. WWII veterans and many Vietnam vets are now at the age where they may require the care of a nursing home. We owe these brave men and women our gratitude and utmost respect. But sadly, nursing home abuse among our veterans is not uncommon in America.
Nursing home abuse and neglect is something that has tragically plagued our country’s elderly and military veterans have felt their share of this blight on America. We as family members and friends of elderly veterans now in nursing homes need to make frequent visits to them, not only for companionship, but for their safety.
We encourage you to become familiar with the signs of nursing home abuse so you can spot as early as possible if there is any type of abuse or neglect. From there you should notify the police immediately so that appropriate action can be taken and a formal report written up.
It is also important to contact a nursing home abuse attorney who can help the victim and their family get some justice. A nursing home abuse lawsuit also serves as a notice to nursing homes that we will not stand for abuse and we will fight against it.
This Memorial Day remember those who fought for you. They are heroes to us, and if they are being abused in a nursing home it’s time for you to be a hero to them.
