A Zanesville,Ohio nursing home is now closed after officials found several instances of nursing home abuse and neglect.
According to reports, The Autumn Healthcare of Zanesville nursing home has been under scrutiny after investigators have uncovered a long history of poor care. Families of the victims filed several complaints with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), which led to the Ohio Healthcare Fraud Section installing hidden cameras in rooms in the nursing home. The results of the footage, along with the investigation results, were so severe that the nursing home’s doors have been close permanently.
In one instance, several staff members reportedly created fake documentations in an attempt to make it appear as if the residents were being given proper medication. Additionally, the nursing home has been a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) “special focus facility” (SFF) for over three years. An SFF is a facility that has a history of nursing home abuse and neglect, resulting in being placed on a national nursing home watch list which requires extra investigations.
The facility will be shut down within 60 days. Meanwhile, families of the current residents are scrambling to find new living arrangements for their loved ones. According to Barbara Mccormick, whose mother is currently living at Autumn Healthcare, the process has been difficult”
“[We’re] angry, frustrated, hurt because we thought putting our mom in a nursing home, we thought she would be taken care of. That ain’t how it has turned out,” Mccormick said.
