A former nurse at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center in Kansas is soon to be sentenced for stealing morphine from the nursing home. The nurse stole morphine from overstock bottles and then diluted the bottles to hide her theft.
The former nurse and her lawyer are seeking leniency when she is sentenced in this nursing home abuse case saying the woman is a drug addict who is receiving methadone treatments and she was very careful to steal only from overstock bottles of morphine.
Charged in a 10-count indictment, the woman pleaded guilty to two counts in a deal made with prosecutors and the rest of the charges were thrown out. She could get up to 10 years in prison for her crimes as well as a $250,000 fine and another fine up to $10,000.
Often times the very nurses we trust to take care of our loved ones in nursing homes are the ones who betray our trust and abuse or neglect vulnerable nursing home residents. We urge you to contact a nursing home abuse lawyer if you think your loved one was abused or neglected in a nursing home.
