Southwoods Nursing Home in Northallerton, North Yorkshire has come under investigation for nursing home abuse after complaints that residents and even staff are being mistreated. Since the investigation, two staff members have been suspended.
North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire County Council’s social services department are investigating claims from a family member of a resident. The family member reported to The Northern Echo news website that it seems that residents who are most vulnerable with little ability to speak and convey their abuse are the most affected.
The resident’s family member said that given the residents’ difficulty with speaking out it is difficult to understand what exactly happened.
A staff member of the facility said the situation is a private matter and is being dealt with.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed that they are investigating concerns at the nursing home.
