Winterbourne View residential hospital in Hambrook, South Gloucestershire, England is set to close its doors after a BBC program showed undercover video of residents being held down, slapped, having water poured on them, and being mocked by staff.
Investigations into abuse at the nursing home have shown widespread abuse. Thirteen staff members were suspended after an investigation last month, and police have arrested a total of eleven staff members. The Nursing and Midwifery Council has suspended two nurses from practicing while they are investigated for suspicions of serious breaches in the council’s code of conduct.
All residents of the nursing home have been transferred to other care facilities.
In addition to undercover video and other means of combating nursing home abuse it is very important that family and loved ones of nursing home residents make routine visits to the nursing home and look for signs of abuse or neglect.
If you suspect abuse or neglect is occurring you should contact the police right away. From there, we advise you to contact a qualified nursing home abuse lawyer who can help your family get the justice you deserve.
